Dry-Clox®
(cloxacillin benzathine)

Dry cow mastitis treatment that fights Gram-positive bacteria

Details

Dry-Clox® (cloxacillin benzathine) is a dry cow antibiotic mastitis treatment that provides bactericidal activity against Gram-positive bacteria, including Strep agalactiae, penicillin-resistant Staph aureus and non-penicillinase-producing Staph aureus

Since 95 percent of infections at dry-off are caused by Gram-positive pathogens,2 DRY-CLOX is a very effective choice.

Each 10-mL, disposable, ready-to-use syringe contains the active ingredient cloxacillin benzathine.  After each quarter has been completely milked out at dry-off and at least 30 days prior to calving, infuse one 10-mL syringe per quarter (500 mg cloxacillin activity per syringe).

Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

Features & Benefits

Proven Efficacy

In a head-to-head trial, Dry-Clox® (cloxacillin benzathine) treatment worked as well as Spectramast® DC (ceftiofur hydrochloride). There was no statistical difference in the following areas2:

  • Intramammary infections post calving

  • Risk for cure

  • Risk for new infection during the dry period

  • Risk for culling

  • Risk for clinical mastitis before 100 days in milk

  • Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) test performance for milk, butterfat percent, protein percent and somatic cell count (SCC) up to 100 days in milk (DIM)

Profit Building

  • With zero milk withhold,* DRY-CLOX treatment gets cows back in the milking string soon after calving, giving you more milk to sell and more peace of mind.

  • DRY-CLOX treatment lets you treat dry-cow mastitis for less, saving producers more per cow compared to the more costly antibiotic for dry cows.3

Partial insertion reduces new infections

  • With the Opti-Sert® applicator tip, partial insertion reduces the incidence of new infections during the dry period.1

  • Studies have shown that when infusing into the udder at a depth of 2 to 3 millimeters, as opposed to 5 or more millimeters, new intramammary infections can be reduced by as much as 50 percent.1

Part of an effective dry cow protocol

  • DRY-CLOX treatment is part of an effective dry cow protocol with zero* milk withhold, that can be used in conjunction with other Boehringer Ingelheim products.

  • Lockout® (bismuth subnitrate) is a better-engineered teat sealant that aids in the prevention of new intramammary infections, and has zero milk withhold.

  • J-VAC® is a broad-spectrum bacterin-toxoid that aids in the prevention of mastitis caused by Escherichia coli and the effects of endotoxemia caused by E. coli and Salmonella Typhimurium.

  • Bovikalc® Dry is an oral mineral bolus designed to reduce milk production, which decreases udder engorgement and pressure, leading to more comfortable cows.

*DRY-CLOX RESIDUE WARNING: For use in dry cows only.  Do not use within 30 days of calving.  Any animal infused with this product must not be slaughtered for food until 30 days after the latest infusion.
