The equine industry continues to face challenges in attracting and retaining professionals. Veterinary professionals consider leaving, due to safety concerns, lower earning potential, and the desire to work fewer hours, among other reasons.

While many changes within the industry must take place to provide more sustainable career paths, the appropriate and full utilization of support staff is a key opportunity to address several of the concerns described above.

Allowing skilled technicians and assistants to work to the top of their skill set can improve safety, boost morale and provide efficiencies that boost profitability and earning potential.

Dr. Zeytoonian discusses steps for implementing better tech utilization, and provides examples of appointment types appropriate for credentialed assistants to perform.
