Streptococcus Equi Bacterial Extract

• STREPVAX^® II is an injectable strangles vaccine

• Easy to use, no reconstitution needed

• It has been shown to be effective for the vaccination of healthy horses againstStreptococcus equi infection (strangles)

• Concentrated aluminum hydroxide-absorbed suspension of purified antigens derived from Streptococcus equi cells

• Contains the antigenic protein of S. equi but is free of the toxic and irritant substances present in whole-cell bacterins

Shake bottle well. Using aseptic technique, inject 1 mL intramuscularly, preferably in the hindquarters. Use a separate sterile needle for each injection.

For primary vaccination, give 3 doses at intervals of 3 weeks.

The presence of maternal antibodies is known to interfere with the development of active immunity in horses and additional boosters will be required in most young animals. The need for annual booster vaccination has not been established for this product. For advice on revaccination frequency, contact your veterinarian.

Cautions

• Store out of direct sunlight at 35-46°F (2-8°C)

• Do not freeze

• Do not mix with other products

• Use entire contents when first opened

• Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter

Field reports suggest certain hypersensitive horses may demonstrate local or generalized reactions, sometimes severe, following exposure to streptococcal proteins

Field studies indicate that postvaccinal exercise will appreciably decrease the incidence and duration of reactions. In case of anaphylactoid reaction, administer epinephrine. This product has not been tested in pregnant animals.
