The information in this detailer can show you how NexGard COMBO topical solution helps protect your feline patients from tapeworms and other common internal and external parasites, so you can teach clients how to protect their pets.

NexGard COMBO topical solution is safe for kittens at 8 weeks, weighing 1.8 lbs or more.

Let’s Talk Tapeworms

Want to have better conversations with your clients about tapeworms? These are responses to some of the most common client questions when it comes to treating and controlling tapeworms in their cat.

Q: When can I start my new kitten on tapeworm control?

A: NexGard COMBO topical solution is safe for cats and kittens 8 weeks of age or older, weighing 1.8 pounds or more.

Q: My cat hasn’t been on tapeworm control before, why now?

A: Tapeworm infections can adversely affect your cat’s health, though most cats infected with tapeworms don’t show any obvious negative signs. Tapeworm infections are often observed in an infected cat’s feces, and can cause perianal itching and irritation, and less commonly diarrhea, vomiting, and weight loss. A broad-spectrum parasiticide such as NexGard COMBO topical solution can help protect your cat from tapeworms.

Q: Tapeworm control seems pretty expensive. Do I really need to give it year-round?

A: Cats commonly get tapeworms from ingested adult fleas. So, if your cat could come into contact with a flea, treatment and control is the best plan. Talk to your vet about a broad-spectrum parasiticide such as NexGard COMBO topical solution.

Q: My cat lives indoors, why do they need tapeworm control?

A: Although the risk is greater for cats allowed outside, your indoor cat can still be exposed to fleas. Pets and people who go outside can bring them indoors, where your cat can encounter them. Even if your cat only uses a patio or deck, fleas may still find their way to your cat.

Q: Why is tapeworm control necessary if my cat is on flea protection?

A: While flea control can reduce the risk of tapeworm infections transmitted by fleas, cats on flea control can still be infected with tapeworms. Due to cats’ natural grooming behavior, when infected fleas jump on a cat, the cat can groom and ingest the infected fleas (and be infected with tapeworms) before the flea has been exposed to the flea control product. While the risk of these tapeworm infections is reduced in cats that are treated regularly with a flea control product, using a product that combines flea control with a treatment for tapeworms can be helpful to address tapeworm infections in a comprehensive manner. NexGard COMBO topical solution has been shown to be effective in killing adult fleas fast before they can lay eggs, as well as for the treatment and control of tapeworm infections.
